Boat Insurance

We’re Your Safe Harbor

With boat and personal watercraft insurance, you get protection for your boat on the water and on land, with coverage for you and your guests. You’ll enjoy being on the water even more when you aren’t worried about your safety, the safety of your passengers, or your investment.

Your local agent can offer personal advice about product availability in your area and how much coverage is right for you.

Standard Coverage Included With Every Policy

Every boat and personal watercraft insurance policy includes some great coverage to ensure your time on the water is worry-free and enjoyable.

Agreed Value

All boat and personal watercraft policies are agreed value, no matter the age of your boat or personal watercraft. If your boat is declared a total loss after an accident or theft, you’re covered for the total value we agreed upon when you insured it. There’s no complicated depreciation formula based on the age and condition of your boat. All you pay is the deductible. If your boat or PWC is a total loss, we’ll cover everything else up to the value we agreed upon.

Fishing Poles, Water Skis, Cushions and Coolers

With personal effects coverage, your fishing gear and other personal property is covered for up to $7 Unattached equipment like water skis, deck chairs, anchors, safety equipment and marine electronics is automatically covered for up to 10 percent of your hull value or $100, whichever is greater.

Fuel Spill and Wreckage Removal

Coverage for cost related to cleaning up fuel spills and removal of accident wreckage is included in every boat insurance policy. If your boat sinks or is seriously damaged, there is a chance that it could leak oil or fuel into the water. As the boat’s owner you are required by law to have this cleaned up, which can be time consuming and expensive. Your insurance will also help pay costs related to having your sunken or sinking boat raised and removed when required.

On the Water Near You

Boat insurance covers you and your boat up to 75 miles from the U.S. coastline and into Canadian coastal or inland waters. In California, Florida and Oregon, additional coverage areas can be purchased.

Popular Coverage Options

Customize your boat and PWC insurance by choosing options that are right for you. Ask your local agent for personal advice about watercraft insurance coverage options available in your state.

On-Water Assistance

Emergency assistance for boats and personal watercraft will reimburse you for the cost of on-water towing, labor and emergency services like delivery of fuel, oil or a loaned battery if your boat is disabled while on the water.

Captain’s Package

For only a few dollars a month, the Captain’s Package delivers a tackle box full of extra benefits, including:

  • New Boat Price Protection
Replaces boats less than two years old with a new boat that has to the greatest extent possible the same features, equipment and options as the one you lost, regardless of the cost.
  • Roadside Assistance
Your boat or PWC trailer, and the car or truck you tow it with, are both covered for up to $300.
  • Personal Effects Protection
Increases this standard coverage to $2,500 with a $250 deductible.
  • Emergency Assistance
Increases this coverage in most states to $1000.

Even More Coverage Options

Talk to your local agent about more boat and PWC insurance coverage and options available where you live, including:

Liability

Like auto insurance, personal liability coverage provides coverage to other boaters and boat owners in the event you are at-fault for an accident on the water. This coverage will pay to repair or replace the property of someone else as well as for their medical care, lost wages and other costs incurred as a result of a boating accident for which you are legally held responsible. It will also help pay for wreckage removal and fuel spill cleanup costs.

Medical Payments (MedPay)

Helps pay for expenses like hospital bills and medical care that you may be held responsible to pay if you cause an accident that injures someone else. Watercraft medical payments coverage is available from $500 to $10,000 and covers you, your passengers and even your water skiers and tubers, no matter who is at fault.

Physical Damage

Helps pays for the cost to repair or replace your watercraft, its motor, any permanently attached equipment, and your trailer, if it is stolen or damaged, up to the agreed value of your watercraft. Physical damage coverage also automatically includes coverage for unattached equipment, personal effects and emergency assistance. In some states, pet coverage is automatically included with physical damage coverage and additional fishing equipment is an option when at least one watercraft on your policy includes physical damage coverage.

Uninsured/Underinsured Watercraft Bodily Injury

If you are hit by an uninsured or underinsured boater, and you are injured, this coverage helps pay for medical treatment, lost wages and other costs associated with the accident.
