What To Do If You Get Into a Car Accident

If someone is injured, call 911

If you can move your car, move it out of the way of traffic

Get this information from the scene of the accident:

  • The other car's make, model, year and license plate number.
  • The names of any witnesses and their contact information.
  • The name, badge number, and contact information for the officer who comes to the accident. Ask the officer when and where to get the accident report and accident report number
  • The time, date and exact location of the accident, with notes of skid marks, weather and road conditions. Take photos with a cell phone of anything relating to the accident scene.

If you get into a car accident with a hit-and-run driver, call the police.
